The Benefits of Thyme
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris) is best cultivated in a hot, sunny location with well-drained soil. It is generally planted in the spring.
It is used for embalming. in baths and burnt as incense in their temples, to purify the rooms and to give an aromatic flavour to cheese and liqueurs Thyme was being placed beneath pillows to aid sleep and ward off nightmares.
Dried thyme is widely used in Armenia in teas. A tea made by infusing the herb in water can be used for coughs and bronchitis. Before the advent of modern antibiotics, oil of thyme was used to medicate bandages. Thyme tea will arrest gastric fermentation. It is useful in cases of wind spasms and colic, and will assist in promoting perspiration at the commencement of a cold, and in fever and febrile complaints generally.
